Not long afterwards Maria becomes the wife of the baron and founds a family choir in the beginning of the 30-s with which she held numerous concert appearances. After the connection with Germany in 1938 the family had to escape from Austria. It is dependent from now on on her musical activity as the only source of income. The Trapps can finally, settle in the USA where they buy a farm in 1941 in Vermont (Stowe) and develop it to the Trapp Family Lodge.
